On May 31, 2023, Sultan Haitham bin Tarik officially launched Sultan Haitham City at Al Barakah Palace. This major project reflects Oman’s big goals under Oman Vision 2040—building a modern, sustainable city that supports economic growth and offers a high-quality lifestyle.


What is Sultan Haitham City?

This city is a symbol of Oman’s forward-thinking development. It aims to blend innovation, sustainability, and community living in a way that meets international standards. The city will include everything needed for a complete, comfortable lifestyle—housing, schools, hospitals, mosques, parks, and more.


Three Phases of Development

Phase 1 (2024–2030)

  • Size: 5 million square meters
  • 6 neighborhoods
  • 1.6 million sqm central park
  • 6,743 homes (villas, townhouses, apartments)
  • Includes schools, a private hospital, gas station, churches, and more
  • Will house about 35,000 people

Phase 2 (2028–2035)

  • Area: 2.6 million sqm
  • 4,200 homes
  • For over 23,000 people
  • 1.4 million sqm construction space

Phase 3 (2033–2040)

  • Area: 2.3 million sqm
  • 3,500 homes
  • For over 21,000 people
  • 1.3 million sqm construction space

The city is divided into 19 self-sufficient neighborhoods. Each will have full services, including:

  • 25 mosques (including one large central mosque)
  • 11 health centers and a 1,200-bed referral hospital
  • Schools for all ages (39 in total)
  • Centers for elderly care and people with disabilities
  • Police and civil defense stations
  • A national center for handicrafts and creative industries


Who’s Involved?

Design & Planning:

  • Ibn Khaldun Company (school and rehabilitation center designs)
  • Razeen Company (cultural center designs)

Construction:

  • Strabag Oman (five bridges)
  • Oman International Holding Company (central control center)

Funding:
The Ministry of Housing has teamed up with Al Abrar Real Estate and Oman Housing Bank to offer financing options for buyers.

Development Partners:
29 contracts have been signed with 8 developers, including:

  • Al Abrar Real Estate – 78% of Phase 1 homes in Al Wafa District are sold
  • Dream Villa Company – working on Al Ahlam neighborhood

Government Partnerships:

  • Ministry of Health – referral hospital and women & children’s health center
  • Nama Group – water supply infrastructure


Promotion and Progress

Sultan Haitham City is being promoted at local and international exhibitions. The government is also engaging with young people and institutions to highlight the city’s value—economically, socially, and as a tourist destination.


Looking Ahead

Sultan Haitham City will eventually be home to 100,000 people. It offers modern living in a well-planned, green, and connected environment—perfect for families, professionals, and investors alike. The project also helps achieve Oman’s Vision 2040 goals of creating smart, sustainable cities.
